Chainless electric bicycle

How does Cixi’s PERS technology work?

The PERS (Pedaling Energy Recovery System) is redefining urban mobility. But how can a bicycle move forward without a physical connection between the pedals and the rear wheel? Let’s take a closer look at how a chainless bicycle works.

The end of traditional mechanics

For over a century, bicycles have been based on an unchanging principle: a chain or belt transmitting power from the legs to the wheel. With the PERS technology developed by our partner Cixi, we are entering the era of “drive-by-wire”. There is no longer a chain. The energy you generate while pedalling is converted into electricity and sent directly to the motor. And thanks to the battery power, you can multiply your power by 5.

The PERS system has five levels of assistance: Muscular (pure effort), Active, Balanced, Punch or Dynamite (maximum power). Even if the battery runs out, the energy produced by your own pedalling is transmitted to the motor so you can continue riding to your destination.

Algorithm-driven driving

The heart of the system is based on intelligent electronic management. When you pedal, the sensor measures your effort and instantly transmits it to the motor. The feeling is amazing: it’s completely smooth, with no rattling or chain skipping. Bike adapts to you, not the other way around.

The major advantages of chainless technology:

  • Zero Maintenance: No more grease on your trousers, no more derailleurs to adjust, no more broken chains.
  • No more gear changes: The system manages the resistance for you. You maintain the same cadence, whether you are on flat ground or facing a steep slope.
  • Engine braking and energy regeneration: By pedalling backwards, you slow down the bike while recharging the battery.
